The conversations

Leadership, talked about properly.

There’s a framework behind the six days. It gives us good questions to start with. The agenda belongs to the group.

Starting points

We bring a framework. You set the priorities.

The six days are built around a starting framework: some of the questions that come with leading yourself, other people, teams and organisations. Each event takes on a couple of themes, with a guest contributor who is an expert on them.

You get a say before you arrive, and once we’re together it’s led by the group, for the group. You choose the issues you want to get into, and we work on practical ways through them, using the experience in the room. If people want longer on one theme, or want to bring in something that isn’t on the list, that’s what we do.

Sixteen senior leaders carry a lot of experience. The point is to use it.

The questions

Where we’ll start.

Our starting questions, grouped by event. The group decides which ones matter most, and what gets added.

First event

Yourself and the people around you

Leading yourself

Your habits, blind spots and limits.

  • How do you come across, and how do you know?
  • What do you stand for when things get difficult?
  • How do you stay steady when everything lands on your desk?

Leading other people

Trust, feedback and hard conversations.

  • How honest are your conversations with the people who work for you?
  • How do you give feedback that helps rather than hurts?
  • Who are you developing, and who are you just managing?

Guest contributor

From sport or business.

  • An expert on leading yourself and leading other people, sharing what has worked for them.

Second event

Teams and organisations

Leading teams

What makes a group of capable people a team.

  • What turns a group of capable people into a team?
  • Can people in your team say when something is wrong?
  • How do you hold people to account without it turning into blame?

Leading organisations

Culture and influence beyond your own team.

  • How do you shape a culture you can’t be part of every day?
  • How do you influence people who don’t report to you?
  • What gets lost as an organisation grows?

Guest contributor

From sport or business.

  • An expert on leading teams and leading organisations, sharing how they lead.

Third event

Judgement and what comes next

Strategy

Deciding well when the picture is incomplete.

  • How do you decide when you don’t have enough information?
  • How do you know when to change course?
  • What are you going to stop doing?

What comes next

Changing work, and what leaders will need.

  • What is AI actually changing about your work, and what isn’t it?
  • What do people expect from leaders now that they didn’t ten years ago?
  • What do you want to have built by the time you hand over?

Guest contributor

From sport or business.

  • An expert on strategy and what comes next, sharing ideas you can take back to your own organisation, practice or team.

In practice

How the conversations work.

The group picks the issue

People bring what they’re actually dealing with, and the group decides what to take on. Short and direct, with slides only when they help.

Then the group works on it

Small groups first, then everyone together. People say what they think and what has worked for them, and the group works out a way forward. It’s facilitated, so it stays useful and everyone gets a proper say.

It carries on

On the course, over lunch, at dinner. That’s often where the useful bit happens.

Who’s in charge

The group leads. Clint keeps it moving.

Clint Godfrey facilitates, drawing on a career designing and delivering leadership development for managers and senior leaders, with a background in higher education, sport and organisational strategy. The job is to keep the discussion honest, useful and moving, and to bring in ideas when they help. It’s discussion from start to finish.

A guest contributor at each event, an expert on that event’s themes and a top performer from sport or business, brings a different angle. They aren’t there to teach a model. They’re there to share what has worked for them, how they lead, and what you can take back to your own organisation.
